So, you want a Goldendoodle but you are also seeking a THERAPY dog?  While Goldendoodles can definitely make wonderful assistance and Therapy dogs...there is alot to learn regarding the process, the costs and what is involved with assistance dogs.  This page will provide some links to areas that may be of help to you  if you are on a DOODLE QUEST for a Therapy Goldendoodle.  Dogs who are used as assisted animals require alot of training that doesn't come cheap! Not all dogs make the cut!  Please do not ask us to "donate" a dog for Therapy purposes.  There are many state funded avenues for those who seek an assistance dog but can't afford one.
Pets As Therapy Program
Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a free community service provided by Guide Dogs NSW/ ACT. Our primary goal is to fulfil the companionship needs of people who may be disadvantaged because of age, illness, disability or isolation throughout New South Wales and the ACT.

Therapy dogs visit hospitals and nursing homes bringing joy wherever they go. Most people in these facilities have no daily contact with animals. Therapy dogs are specially trained and must be exceptionally calm and obedient. The goal of this class is to assist the handler (you) in training your dog to the high perfection this job demands. Class material will include help with perfecting obedience around severe distractions as well as hospital etiquette and appropriate protocol for interacting with patients.

Using animals in therapeutic settings is not a new idea. It began in the 1500’s when physicians of the day discovered that the presence of an animal calmed and soothed people with mental problems.
